Adar 3
Chaff
“… But
are like the chaff which the wind blows away.” (Ps 1:4 ISR)
Here in our area of
Wyoming, as well as across the state line into Nebraska, wheat is grown.  I remember, during the first year we lived
here, I would watch the farmers harvesting their wheat, the enormous combines eating
up the crop, and filling the trucks with the kernels.  To me, it was fascinating.  What was also obvious was the cloud of dust
and chaff following the combine, row after row, as it harvested the wheat.
Chaff is the very fine,
very dry, scaly protective outer coating of most cereal grains, and what most
do not realize, it is harmful to humans, because we cannot digest it.  Threshing floors – such as is mentioned in
reference with King David (see 2Samuel 24:16-24) – are of vital importance.  To quote Wikepedia,
The process of loosening the chaff from the grain so as to remove it is called threshing - traditionally done by milling or pounding. Separating remaining loose chaff from the grain is caled winnowing - traditionally done by repeatedly tossing the grain up into a light wind which gradually blows the lighter chaff away. This method typically utilizes a broad, plat-shaped basket or similar receptacle to hold and collect the winnowed grain as it falls back down.
Are the "wicked" blown away into places unknown? My answer would be "not yet." I do believe there will come a time when this group of people will no longer exist, but for now, yes, they are still here (see Matt 13:24-30). However, as the Breath of the Ruach, the wind of the Spirit of YHWH, continues to blow through our lives, let us be certain that none of the harmful chaff is clinging to us, in the winnowing process of our Creator. Amein.
