Your Daily Slice

SIVAN 27

Warning

Also, Your servant is warned by them, In guarding them there is great reward.” (Ps 19:11 ISR)

The Hebrew word that has been translated as ‘warned’ in our opening verse is the word zâhar (Strong’s H2094), and while it does mean to admonish, teach and warn, it also carries with it the implication of shining brightly.  This puts a slightly different twist to this verse, especially when we reaffirm that the ‘them’ that is being discussed here are all the instructions written down for us in the Torah.  Stop and think for a moment; Israel was called to BE the light to the nations (Isa 10:17; 60:1-3), just as we, individually, are called to be the light of the world (Mat 5:14-16).  What then, is this light that is shining out?  I believe that it is the Torah that we persevere in walking out that is shining out from us.

When we guard something or someone, it is because of the great worth that we attach to that object or person.  And so it is with Torah.  When the words and instructions of our Elohim are more important to us than the air that we breathe, or the food that we eat, they become the greatest treasure that we could ever have.  We watch over them, we protect them, and we diligently try to walk out what we believe to be His truth.

Not only is there great reward in doing so, as this verse tells us, but there is also a veiled warning concerning the consequences of disobedience, rebellion, and insubordination.  The government of our Creator cannot be circumvented; what we sow, that is what we reap.  When we sow to our carnal appetites and flesh, we will reap corruption and eventually death; when we sow obedience to Torah, and to the Spirit of Elohim, we will reap life, joy unspeakable, and prosperity in all areas of our lives (Gal 6:7-8).

It is so much easier to follow the rules …

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wrong is like darkness; They do not know at what they stumble. (Pro 4:18-19 ISR)

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Master. Walk as children of light (Eph 5:8 ISR)
