SIVAN 21

Witness

The TESTIMONY of Adonai is trustworthy, making the simple wise. (Ps 19:7 TLV, emphasis mine)

Many translations of this verse use the word ‘witness’ instead of ‘testimony’; both are correct, as what does a witness do, except give testimony!  The Hebrew word that is found here is the word êdûth (Strong’s H5715) and means testimony or witness, but can also include within the meaning the evidence that is actually being given.  This same word êdûth is also found in Ex 25:22, referring to the ‘Ark of the Witness’, or Testimony, the Ark which contained those items that Elohim instructed Moses to place therein (see Heb 9:4).  These items were the ‘evidence’, or ‘witness’, of the greatness of our Creator, a testimony that could not be disputed.

What, specifically, is the ‘testimony’ that is being referred to here in our opening verse?  It is Torah, the strongest witness and evidence we have of the sovereignty of our Elohim.  Within every letter and word of this amazing document we find confirmation of the enormity of our Creator.  We see His greatness, His wisdom, His government, His love for His chosen people, His compassion, His justice, His faithfulness, and His divine instructions in moral and righteous living, all of which is written down for our benefit.

And yet, how does this ‘make wise the simple’?  This is a ‘no-brainer’, really; we become wise by being obedient to the instructions that Elohim has laid out for us.  Is it not wisdom to choose life over death?  Unfortunately, there will be those that ignore this option completely, believing that it does not pertain to them, that the dictates of Torah are no longer applicable, having been done away with.  I implore you, brethren, let none of us be found within the numbers of this group, but let us be counted with those who find delight and security in the teachings of Torah.

I will never forget Your Precepts; for with them You gave me life. (Ps 119:93 HRB)

The Torah of the wise is a fountain of life, Turning one away from the snares of death. (Pro 13:14 ISR)
