ADAR 3

Forever Settled

FOR EVER, O LORD, thy word is SETTLED in heaven.”  (Ps 119:89 KJV, emphasis mine)

This is a special verse in our home; it is the verse that started us on our walk into the Torah observant belief and lifestyle.  We began our research with the word ‘forever’, and armed with an old hard copy of the Strong’s Concordance, we discovered that this word (in the Hebrew ôlâm {Strong’s H5769}) is used 439 times in the Tanakh – the Old Testament.  Most dictionaries define this word as “without ever ending; eternally”[1], which certainly puts a period after our opening verse from the Psalms.  The doctrine popular within the tenets of the westernized church system that everything to the left of Matthew has been done away with is false and totally wrong.  BOOM.

There are those of us that have spent some time on the inside of a courtroom, giving us some experience as to the workings of our judicial system.  When all the legal procedures have run their course, and all that remains is the judge’s decision, stress is heightened, and nerves are frayed.  However, when the gavel comes down, the decision is made, and it is ‘settled’; it is finished.

Noah Webster defines ‘settled’ as “to make certain or permanent, to determine, to adjust or confirm, to establish, to be free from doubt”[2].  We know that ‘forever’ relates to a time of infinite duration, or an unending future.  Therefore, from our opening verse, we can understand that the Word of our Elohim is infinitely and permanently established; it is confirmed; and it is never to change, nor is it subject to appeal!

“The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.”  (Mat 24:35, emphasis mine)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. He was in the beginning with Elohim.”  (John 1:1)

“… All flesh is as grass, and all the esteem of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the Word of Elohim REMAINS FOREVER.” (1Pet 1:24-25, emphasis mine)
