TEVET 3

Hanukkah – The Last Day

“Listen to Me, My people, and give ear to Me, O My nation, for the Torah goes forth from Me, and My right-ruling I set as a LIGHT to peoples.”  (Isa 51:4, emphasis mine)

“And again Yeshua was speaking to them and said, ‘I am the LIGHT of the world.  He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will find for himself the LIGHT of life.’”  (John 8:12 HRVS, emphasis mine)

I have heard ‘darkness’ described as the absence of light, a description I think is appropriate. In the blackness of the adversary’s domain, the absence of the presence of Elohim is very evident by the absence of any love, mercy and compassion – all manifestations of the fruit of His Spirit.  Even the smallest flickering candle brings a measure of warmth and hope to the darkest hole in the ground; one hand, extended in kindness, is seldom forgotten.

Many, many years ago, we rented a house that was infested with roaches.  We could hear them at night, in the walls, under the floors, in the attic.  I will never forget the lesson Elohim taught me concerning all those roaches.  Coming home late one evening, I flipped on the light switch in the kitchen, to watch in horror as what seemed like thousands of roaches fleeing to their various hiding places.  Abba spoke to me at that moment, telling me, “THIS is what happens to the adversary when MY LIGHT shines in your life.  As long as you walk in MY LIGHT, the adversary cannot tolerate it, for he loves the darkness.”

It is at this time of the year, and at this season, when many people enjoy decorating their homes with beautiful light arrangements.  Most do so out of ‘tradition’, without knowing where and why this tradition was started.  To those of us who worship the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Messiah Yeshua is our light, and has instructed us to be His light in this dark world (Mat 5:14-16).  Therefore, as we witness all the many ‘light displays’, let us remember HIM whose light we are to reflect.  Let us each take that moment to rededicate ourselves to living for Him, to extend that hand in kindness, speak that word in gentleness, give that gift with compassion, and love that one with sincerity.  In Yeshua’s Name, AMEIN.

“In Him was life, and the life was the LIGHT of men.” (John 1:4)
