KISLEV 5
Protect Yourself
“Use all the armor and weaponry that God
provides, so that you will be able to stand against the deceptive tactics of
the adversary.” (Eph 6:11 CJB)
Computers are amazing
pieces of equipment. You may be reading
this essay through the medium of the Internet, brought to you by a PC, laptop,
tablet, or smart phone. We can
communicate with each other (distance is not an issue) with this modern
technology, and the capabilities of computers, of so many different types and
sizes, are almost limitless.
But they are also very vulnerable. Enter the world of “hackers, viruses,
spy-ware, mal-ware, glitches”, and much
more that I do not even know anything about.
If we do not take the time, and the expense, to protect our investments,
they can be severely damaged, and even destroyed, by the outside attacks that
come against them. As good stewards, we are responsible to stand guard and
protect – yes, even an inanimate item as a computer – what Abba Father has
trusted to our care.
Some people prefer one
software program over another; others will recommend a combination of programs. Perhaps a regular daily ‘cleaning’ schedule
is the answer. Whatever your particular
agenda is, there is one thing that we all have in common: it takes vigilance to keep our systems
operating without problems.
It is the same with
our spiritual lives also. We too, are
very vulnerable; agents of the adversary (spiritual hackers, viruses, spy-ware,
etc.) are “roaring and searching, looking for who they can attack and devour”
(1Pet 5:8). Just as with our computers,
we too need to be on a schedule where our own ‘Anti-virus program’ (the Word of our Elohim) runs continually. The ‘anti-spyware’ (the Ruach HaKodesh, the
Holy Spirit of Elohim) needs to have free access to search out the unwanted
files in our lives, and then needs our total
cooperation in isolating, deleting, and discarding everything that should not be there. Only then can we know with certainty that our systems will always run the way our
Creator, the El-Elyon, the most High God, designed them to do.
