Your Daily Slice

 TISHRI 19

HOW are you Thinking?

“In conclusion, brothers, FOCUS YOUR THOUGHTS …” (Phi 4:8 CJB, emphasis mine)

I recall an incident that happened many years ago, involving our youngest son, and a Great Horned Owl.  Justin had been hired (as a caretaker) by a friend of ours who was raising game birds (mostly pheasants), and this particular owl wanted ‘free lunch’.  The owl had managed to get inside of the large netted pen with the young birds, and it was necessary to capture it and remove it from the pen.  It sat there on the ground, with its big, yellow, cat-like eyes staring at us – ‘fixed and focused’, if you will – never blinking, never moving, always glaring directly at us with a concentrated intensity.

If only we would be that focused and concentrated with our thought life, for I believe that this is what our Creator directs us to do.

The Greek word that has been translated into our English word ‘thoughts’ in our opening verse is the word logizomai (Strong’s G3049) and has almost a mathematical interpretation to it.  It implies an accounting, a calculating, a reckoning, a reasoning, and of putting things together in one’s mind by close examination.  However, what kind of shape is our mental ‘balance sheet’ in?

“…overthrowing reasonings and every high matter that exalts itself against the knowledge of Elohim, TAKING CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it obedient to the Messiah …” (2Cor 10:2, emphasis mine)

We are responsible and accountable for our own thought life.  “Every high matter” are the ‘reasonings’ and thoughts that try to take priority over our knowledge of our Elohim, and of His Word.  It is these thoughts that we are to bring into captivity, taking control and dominion over this kind of mental activity, and bringing all of it into submission.  We are to literally ‘get a handle’ on these thoughts that come into our minds, place them under the microscope, examine them, and enter them into the ledger of pluses and minus.  Should they fail to come up to the standard of the Word of our Elohim, then we are to discard them.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.” (Rom 12:2, emphasis mine)
