Loving Wealth
“An overseer, then, should …” (1Tim 3:2 ISR)
“… not {be} a lover of money [insatiable for wealth and ready to obtain it by questionable means].”
(1Tim 3:3 AMPC, insert mine)
Just because a
minister has a giant, palatial mansion does not necessarily mean that he/she is
qualified, and approved of by Elohim.
Just because a ministry leader has his/her own jet airplane, a ten car
garage filled with expensive vehicles, and whose entire message endorses a
prosperity doctrine, does not validate the godliness the individual tries to
portray. Wealth and prosperity is not any type evidence of Elohim’s
approval and anointing. Let me repeat
that one: Just because an individual is
blessed with prosperity does not automatically
qualify them for any leadership
position. And those ministers that use
their positions of authority to enrich themselves beyond reason – I had better
not say more. Elohim will deal with them
in His timing, and on His terms.
Wealth, and money, of
themselves, are not evil. Having a sufficiency
to meet our needs (not primarily our wants), with an excess left over to be
used to help those who are in need (see Eph 4:28; Luke 3:11) is a worthwhile
endeavor and goal. However, one who is engaged in the pursuit of wealth, just for personal
gain and pleasure, is something that I, personally, would want to investigate further
before I could sit under such a leader. Wealth, and the display of it, does not
impress me. How much an individual
gives, with the focus on who to,
might go further to spark my attention.
The commandment has always
been, and will continue to be, to remember the poor, the orphans, and the
widows (see Jam 1:27; Deu 15:7, 11).
“Give, and it shall
be given to you. A good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running
over shall be put into your lap. For with the same measure with which you
measure, it shall be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38 ISR)
