Attitude of Gratitude

Bless our God, O peoples, GIVE HIM GRATEFUL THANKS and make the voice of His praise be heard, Who put and kept us among the living, and has not allowed our feet to slip.”(Ps 66:8-9 AMPC, emphasis mine)

It is very difficult to maintain, cultivate, and preserve an ‘attitude of gratitude’ while we are standing in the middle of our darkest night of despair, discouragement and grief.  It is almost impossible to sing praises while we are fighting the worst battle we have ever found ourselves in, and struggling against the worst odds the adversary has ever thrown at us.  It is almost impossible for us to remember that our Creator, our Father, our mighty Elohim will never leave us or forsake us when it seems like all hope is gone (Deu 31:6,8; Heb 13:5), and, like Elijah, we are the only one left to stand for our Messiah King (1Kin 19:10).

Cultivating an ‘attitude of gratitude’ is a choice, one that we make as an act of our will.  We choose when we are thankful and grateful, and we choose when we are bitter and complaining.  We choose when we are satisfied and content, and we choose when we are resentful and frustrated.  However, when we make the choice to be thankful, regardless of our outward circumstances, this is when we remember that ‘He is set-apart, enthroned on the praises of Yisra’ĕl’ (Ps 22:3).  As we begin to praise Him, to thank Him for who He is, it is at this point that our Deliverer will show up on the scene.  It is in the Light of His Glory that no darkness can dwell, and the enemy has to flee (John 8:12; 1John 1:5; 2Cor 6:14).

Let us be diligent to praise Him for who He is, and for all that He has done.  Let us be diligent to thank Him, even for the little, simple things that we tend to take for granted.  This is how the ‘grateful heart’ is born.

Let the word of Messiah dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, SINGING WITH GRATITUDE IN YOUR HEARTS to God.” (Col 3:16 TLV, emphasis mine)
