Nisan 18
Being Led
“He leads me …” (Ps 23:2 ISR)
I believe that this is the
place where most of us butt heads. We
have a real and pertinent problem with anyone
telling us what to do, where to go, what to say, and generally, how to live our
lives. This particular problem is called
“self-sovereignty”. We want to be in control, especially when it comes to anything
dealing with our lives, and our decision making. Unfortunately, we cannot be successful
Torah-keepers without submitting to the guidance of our Creator, and His divine
instructions in moral and righteous living.
The word “leads” from our
opening verse is translated from the Hebrew word nâhal (Strong’s H5095), and
brings with it a sense of gently leading and guiding to a place of refreshment
and rest. What a beautiful picture of a
shepherd caring for his flock! Sheep are
by nature very suspicious, easily stressed, and quick to spook and run; they
do, however, react favorably to someone who is calm, quiet and gentle. Are we not the same? How well our Creator knows our natures that
He does not drag us by our heels to get us where we need to be, but calmly guides
us – when we choose to listen. Thank You, Father, that You “lead us in Your truth and
teach us, For You are the Elohim of our deliverance” (Ps 25:5).
“And יהוה went before them by day in a column of cloud TO LEAD THE WAY,
and by night in a column of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and
night.”
(Ex 13:21 ISR, emphasis mine)
