TAMMUZ 2
Who, ME?
“Hear, O Yisra’ĕl …” (Deu 6:4)
The Bible is the
story of a single group of people, descended from one man, and the history of
their existence upon this earth. It is
the story of Elohim’s interaction with them, of shaping them and molding them
to become the “People of the Way”, of His
way. It is the story of the many
blessings when this nation chose to walk in obedience to their Elohim, and of
the judgement and punishment for their disobedience.
We understand, from Scripture, that when Bnai Yisrael, the people of Israel, left Egypt after centuries of slavery, there were those accompanying them that were called a “mixed multitude”, meaning that they were not descended from the 12 sons of Jacob (see Ex 12:38). When this mixed multitude chose to follow and obey the Elohim of Israel, and His Torah, they were assimilated into the nation of Israel. They were no longer considered ‘strangers’ (see Ex 12:49; Lev 19:34); the one condition attached to them was that they were not allowed to own land within the borders of Israel – this was reserved for the natural born Israelites.
It is the same with us today. Those of us who have made the choice and decision to follow the Elohim of the Hebrews, and His Torah, are not only ‘grafted in’ to the Olive Tree (see Rom 11:16-24), but because of our Messiah Yeshua, we are also adopted as children of Elohim (see Eph 1:3-6). It therefore stands to reason, that when our Abba Father is speaking to “O, Yisra’el”, this includes us; we need to listen, and pay attention.
It might be a matter of life or death!
Avinu Malkenu, my Father, my King, I confess and
repent of my lack of discipline in the area of hearing, listening, and paying
attention to You, and Your Word. A
disciple is a ‘disciplined one’; help me, Abba, to be the disciple that you
desire me to be. May I, as part of
Yisra’el, always be attentive to You, my Creator and Elohim. Amein.
