SIVAN 25

Judgments

“… the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (Ps 19:9 LBP)

Judgment has to do with government, in this case Elohim’s government, as laid out for us in the verses of Torah.  We understand that the total of Torah is a set of instructions we are meant to live by, the divine instructions in moral and righteous living.  We also understand that there will be repercussions if we violate – or disregard – any of these instructions.  We have the same assurance if we continually break any of the laws of our present day and age, i.e. if we continue to drive recklessly, breaking the speed limit, we will eventually – most likely – loose our driver’s license.  For every action, there is, and will be, a reaction; however, it is our responsibility to ensure that our actions are the correct ones.

This is where we come back to the “fear of Elohim", as we discussed yesterday.  When our life is governed by the desire to always do what is pleasing in the eyes of our Father, we will also have a very real understanding of the judgment of Elohim, and that too will fuel our “fear of Elohim".  Not ever wanting to come under the His judgment is a very valid and important reason to walk the Torah walk.

Having said that, we know, if we are honest with ourselves, that every judgment that comes upon us is one deserved for the Torah violation that brought it about.  Truthfully, who do we think we are, that the Creator of the universe would look the other way at our flagrant disobedience?  What we sow, is what we reap: this is a universal truth (see Gal 6:7-8).  When we choose to sow a life of rebellion and ṭâmê' (impurity and contamination), then we reap the judgment of Elohim.

Are His judgments righteous?  Of course they are; we have earned everything we get.  If it was not for the mercy and compassion of our Righteous Judge, we would most likely be dead.  And yet, the Father, in His immeasurable love, “is patient toward us, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2Pet 3:9)

Thank You, Abba, for Your kindness and mercy that is new every morning … (Lam 3:22-23 ISR)

The sum of Your word is truth, And all Your righteous right-rulings are forever. (Ps 119:160 ISR)
