NISAN 16
Being Led
“He leads me …” (Ps 23:2)
This, I believe, is the place where most of us will dig in our
heels. We have a real and pertinent
problem with anyone telling us what
to do, where to go, what to say, and generally, how to live our lives. This issue is called “self-sovereignty”. We
want to be the one in control, especially when it comes to anything dealing
with our lives, and our decision making.
It is, however, totally irrelevant how much kicking and screaming we
do. Point blank, we will never be
successful Torah-keepers without submitting to the guidance of our Creator, and
His divine instructions in moral and righteous living.
The word ‘leads’ from our opening verse is translated from the Hebrew word nâhal (Strong’s H5095) and brings with it a sense of gently leading and guiding to a place of refreshment and rest. Again, what an amazing picture of a shepherd caring for his flock! Sheep are by nature very suspicious, easily stressed, and quick to spook and run; they do, however, react favorably to someone who is calm, quiet and gentle. Are we not the same? How well our Creator knows our natures that He does not drag us by our heels to get us where we need to be, but calmly guides us – when WE CHOOSE to listen. Thank You, Father, that You “lead us in Your truth and teach us, For You are the Elohim of our deliverance” (Ps 25:5).
“Adonai went ahead of them in a column of cloud during the daytime TO
LEAD THEM ON THEIR WAY, and at night in a column of fire to give them light;
thus they could travel both by day and by night.” (Ex 13:21 CJB, emphasis mine)
