NISAN 10

My Meditation

May the words of MY mouth and the meditation of MY heart be acceptable before You, Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Ps 19:15 TLV, emphasis mine)

Noah Webster defines ‘meditation’ as “the turning or revolving of a subject in the mind; serious contemplation”[1].  The question is, therefore, what are we meditating on?  What do we spend our time thinking, rehearsing in our minds, daydreaming as the clouds drift across the sky?  Do we encourage ourselves, as David did, in our Elohim (1Sam 30:6)?  Do we remind ourselves of the faithfulness of our Abba Father to His Word, that He watches over His Word to perform it (Isa 14:24; Jer 1:12; Eze 12:25)?  What are we depositing in our hearts, what is our greatest treasure?

“The good person produces good things from the store of good in his heart, while the evil person produces evil things from the store of evil in his heart.  For his mouth speaks what OVERFLOWS from his heart.” (Luke 6:45 CJB, emphasis mine

What comes out of our mouths – the words that we speak – reveals what our thought life is, whether it is healthy or not.  A successful Torah walk begins first with the thought patterns in our minds; is the ‘carnal mind’, the yetzer hara, in full control, or do we focus our thoughts on the divine instructions in moral and righteous living?  Are we completely in love with Elohim and His Word, or does our mind still hold areas of self-sovereignty, catering to OUR needs and wants?

As we approach the Spring High Holy Days, these are certainly questions we should be examining, as we look inward. Clearing out ‘the leaven’ has as much to do with the leaven within us as it does with that within our literal homes.

“…for as he THINKS in his heart, so is he!(Pro 23:7 HRB, emphasis mine)

“This book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, and YOU shall meditate on it by day and by night, so that you shall be on guard to do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall prosper your way, and then you shall act wisely.” (Jos 1:8 JPS, emphasis mine)
