ADAR 24

The Unlovable

 

“You heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, LOVE your enemies, BLESS those cursing you, DO GOOD to those hating you, and PRAY for those insulting you and persecuting you …” (Mat 5:43-44, emphasis mine)

 

Love is not just a feeling; it is also a choice and decision that we make.  We choose, by an act of our own will, whether or not we will love our neighbor as we love and care for ourselves.  We may also choose and decide when we will no longer do so.  What is tragically unfortunate is when these negative choices are found in the sanctuary of the home, resulting in said home becoming a battle ground.  The husband, or the wife, chose and decided to no longer love their spouse, with no biblical reason for this choice (such as adultery, abuse, etc.); it was just something that was decided upon.  Who wins in this situation?  Where is the honor given to our Elohim?

If we make the claim of belonging to the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, our lives are no longer our own to rule in self-sovereignty.  We do not have the option of making choices that cannot be confirmed by the Word of our Creator.  Found within the pages of the Torah (Lev 19:17-18) and reiterated by Messiah Yeshua (as stated in our opening verse), we are commanded to love the unlovable.  No choosing here. 

No longer is there the choice of ‘getting even’ with those that have done us wrong, that have hurt our feelings, or walked all over us.  WE are to be the example of the type of unconditional love that hung on the stake for every individual that has ever lived, because Abba Father is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance, and have intimate knowledge of the Son (Eze 33:11; Rom 2:4; 2Pet 3:9).

“Therefore, as chosen ones of Elohim, set-apart and beloved, put on compassion, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other if anyone has a complaint against another, indeed, as Messiah forgave you so also should you.  But above all these PUT ON LOVE, which is a bond of the perfection.” (Col 3:12-14, emphasis mine)
