IYAR 23
Motherhood
“The Lord appeared from of old to me [Israel], saying, Yes, I have loved
you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn you and continued My faithfulness to
you.” (Jer 31:3 AMPC)
The second Sunday in May, a day that usually
occurs during the month of Iyar, has
been set aside, here in the United States, as Mother’s Day, a tradition that
began in the early 20th century.
Many nations throughout the international community have also established
one day in the year to honor and esteem all mothers, and while this is
good and noteworthy, do we really
understand what the love of a mother is all about? It is a ‘mother’s love’ that is probably the best example of the heart of our Father
that we can find, a heart that is filled with unconditional love, a love beyond
measurement.
‘Motherhood’ is a position from which there is no retirement. From the moment her child enters her world,
be it through childbirth, or through the process of foster care, or adoption, a
mother’s job is 24/7. Even after her
offspring have left the nest, her job is still in existence, though the ‘job
description’ has now been altered. The
love of a nurturing mother is to be an everlasting love; that is how Elohim
designed it. No matter what children do,
no matter how many mistakes they make, no matter how many times they mess up, mommas will always welcome them with
loving arms and make it better, wipe away all the tears, and tell them that
everything will be all right. That too,
is part of their job description, and is part of training children “in the instruction
and admonition of the Master.” (Eph 6:4).
Some of you may not have been blessed with receiving the type of
mother’s love that Abba Yahweh desired for you to have. It is possible that your own mother never
experienced this type of love for herself; she was merely revealing to you what
she herself knew. However, we, as children
of the living, eternal Elohim, are still called to honor and respect our mothers;
in so doing, “all will be well with us and we will live long on the earth” (Eph
6:2-3). No gift to our mothers can ever equal their gift to us—LIFE. Because of this life we have, we can now be thankful that we have an Abba
Father that we can turn to, and who loves us unconditionally. He is always drawing us closer to Him, and continues in His faithfulness
towards us. Again and again, He proves
to us that His Word is true, and that He will never leave us, nor forsake us (Heb 13:5).
Mothers, those both natural and spiritual, I choose to honor you,
and I thank you. You raised your
children the best that you knew how, and I pray that you can join me in saying,
“my children turned out well, in spite of me”.
Mother’s Day is all about YOU,
mothers, and the celebration of life
…
“Her children stand and
bless her. Her husband praises her...” (Pro 31:28
“ALL your children will be taught by
Adonai; your children will have great peace.” (Isa 54:13 CJB,
emphasis mine)
In memory of my own mother, Agnete Abel, who left this world
behind on November 15, 2009. Your smile
was always bright, Mom.
