A Memorial
“And it was,
when all the nation had completely crossed over the Jordan, YAHWEH spoke to
Joshua, saying, Take twelve men for you out of the people, one man of each
tribe. And charge them, saying, Take
twelve stones from this place, from the middle of the Jordan, from the place
where the feet of the priests were fixed. And you shall carry them over with
you and lay them down in the lodging place which you stay in it tonight.
And Joshua called to the twelve men whom he had
readied from the sons of Israel, one man out of each tribe. And Joshua said to them, Cross over before
the ark of YAHWEH your Elohim to the middle of the Jordan, and each man of you
lift up one stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the
sons of Israel, that this shall be a sign among you, when your children ask
hereafter, saying, What are these stones to you? You shall say to them, Because the waters of
the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of YAHWEH, as it crossed
over into the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones
are for A MEMORIAL to the sons of
Israel all the days.” (Jos
4:1-7 HRB, emphasis mine)
Here
in the United States, today, the fourth Monday in May, is the day we celebrate as
“Memorial Day”, a day originally chosen and set aside to honor those fallen in
the American Civil War. It has since
become a day when we honor those who have been lost in all the military engagements our country has participated in, and
rightly so. The freedoms that we enjoy
as citizens of the United States of America have come with a cost, and it has
not been cheap.
However,
the concept of setting up memorials is not a new one, for all through the Word
of Elohim, we find our ABBA Father admonishing us to remember (Ex 13:3; Num 15:39,40; Deu 5:15; Ps 22:27; Rom 11:18). And the reason for this? We do not ever need to go back to “onions and
leeks” (Num 11:5), and we do need to
remember the price that was paid for our
freedom: the blood of our Savior King, Messiah Yeshua.
As we
spend time this Memorial Day with friends and family, let us stop and remember,
and set up a memorial in our hearts to our Creator and Father. Let us make a point of thanking Him for all
that He has done, and continues to do, in our lives. Can we ever thank Him enough?
“I REMEMBER the deeds of Yah, For I remember Your
wonders of old. And I shall meditate on
all Your work, And talk of Your deeds.” (Ps 77:11-12, emphasis mine)
"REMEMBER the former events of old, for I am Ěl, and there is no one else – Elohim,
and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from of
old that which has not yet been
done, saying, ‘My counsel does stand, and all My delight I do,’” (Isa
46:9-10, emphasis mine)
