IYAR 5
Being Set-Apart …
“Having, then, these promises, beloved, let US cleanse OURSELVES from
all defilement of the flesh and spirit, perfecting set-apartness in the fear of
Elohim.” (2Cor 7:1,
emphasis mine)
According
to our opening verse, it is our
responsibility to purify ourselves from those things that contaminate, infect,
and defile, in other words, get rid of the 'trash'. Being set-apart and holy is not only a goal to strive for; it is
also a prerequisite for citizenship in the New Jerusalem, the future kingdom of
Messiah Yeshua:
“And everyone having this expectation in Him CLEANSES HIMSELF, as He is
clean.” (1John 3:3, emphasis mine)
Holiness can be
explained as a commitment, dedication and consecration to the Elohim of
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It will also
be revealed in sincere and total
obedience toward our Creator, and His Torah. Additionally, it will be seen in the
integrity with which we handle our relationships involving other people. Being set-apart and holy was never intended to
be total isolation from the remainder of humanity, but as we cultivate shalom with all people, we find that
holiness is a form of ‘insulation’.
“… and that you PUT ON the renewed man which was created according to
Elohim, in righteousness and SET-APARTNESS of the truth.” (Eph 4:24,
emphasis mine)
“I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim,
to present your bodies a living offering – SET-APART, well-pleasing to Elohim – your
reasonable worship.” (Rom 12:1, emphasis mine)
