Your Daily Slice

Storm Clouds

He also loads the thick clouds with moisture; He scatters His bright clouds. And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance, to do whatever He commands them on the face of the earthly world. (Job 37:11-12)

My office window faces the east, and I enjoy looking out into my yard, watching the sunrise usher in the coming day.  When I catch a glimpse of an especially vibrant sunrise, it is not unusual for me to head outside with my phone or camera, just to snap a picture of Elohim’s amazing color palate that He displays for all of us to see.  Having said that, it has been pointed out to me that most of the colorful sunrises that I have witnessed have been seen through cloudy skies – many times following a storm the previous night.  It was at this point that Abba had my attention.

It is not my intention to venture into a lengthy discussion on clouds, the different types of clouds, or what their presence can be interpreted as.  Suffice it to say, our world is filled with clouds, many in the form of storms that bring wind, rain, snow, and other volatile forces. Bear with me while I present a picture of a drought-stricken earth, parched and dry.  A violent thunderstorm, filled with angry, dark and heavy clouds, brings the promise of relief to the thirst displayed below, even at the cost of enduring the storm itself.  And it is in the aftermath of this storm that the much re-birth is done.

What of the storms that occasionally roll through our lives, seeming to come out of nowhere?  Do we stand and shake our fist against the lightening, cursing the sound of the thunder?  Or have we finally learned to rest in the hand of El Gibbor, the Mighty Elohim, trusting Him to keep our heads above the water?  Have we reached the place where we finally understand that “all matters work together for good to those who love Elohim, to those who are called according to His purpose”? (Rom 8:28) Where is our emunah, our trust and belief, when the winds are howling around us?

It is when the storm has passed, when our Messiah has said, “Peace, be still” (Mar 4:39) to the waters that were raging on our shoreline, that the sun will then venture to shine forth.  And that is when we will be bathed in the most astounding colors, reflecting off the clouds that are moving out of our lives.

Stand strong, brethren.  Sunrise is coming …

יהוה has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet. (Nah 1:3)
