ADAR 16
Peace-MAKER
“Blessed
are the peacemakers, because they shall be called sons of Elohim.” (Mat 5:9)
When I originally wrote this essay (ten or more years ago),
the headlines of that week told us
that Iran was again stalling concerning the disposal of their uranium supplies,
which are the key ingredients to atomic bombs.
And it is still so today: all indications
are still pointed toward a full-scale
war between Israel (who is defending its homeland) and Iran. Events in the past decade center around the
sham of an agreement concerning nuclear arms that the United States had made
with Iran, an agreement that looks to be resurrected by the new
administration. And so the Middle East
continues to be a melting pot, on the verge of boiling over. Add to this scenario the tension that still
exists between North Korea and the rest of the world; most folk believe that
this country still retains much of its nuclear arsenal, in spite of on-going
peace talks. Let me also mention the
internal dissension and civil unrest we are currently experiencing here in
America – none of the above leads to an atmosphere of peace.
The entire world is looking for peace, yet never, in its
history, has peace been more elusive.
Our Messiah Yeshua told us that we would hear of “wars, and rumors of
wars”, but we were not to let these things disturb us (Mat 24:6). Why?
Because peace, lasting peace,
begins with the Prince of Peace, the Sar
Shalom, and with His kingdom.
“Peace I leave with you; MY [OWN] PEACE I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world
gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be
afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not
permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]” (John 14:27 AMPC,
emphasis mine)
There are those who step up into the role of ‘makers of peace’, who strive earnestly for
reconciliation and restoration, ending all bitterness and strife between
individuals, families, groups, even nations.
We are all called to a ministry
of reconciliation, but those who carry this anointing of ‘peacemaker’ also walk
in a boldness, a courage, for peace must be pursued. Peace is never
compromise, and it takes trust, commitment, love, vulnerability, and faith in
the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to accomplish what must be done for it to be successful.
Will there be peace on earth?
Not until Messiah Yeshua returns.
But we have the assurance that He
is our peace (Eph 2:14), and if we hold on to Him, we can (and need to) be the witness of peace in the midst of all the
storms that He desires us to be. As we
walk in His peace, it will overflow
to the world around us, the world in which we are a part of, a sweet-smelling
aroma unto our Elohim, our Creator…
“If possible, on your
part, be at peace with all men.” (Rom 12:18)
“So, then, let us pursue
the matters of peace and the matters for building up one another.” (Rom 14:19)
