The Fruit of Faithfulness
“But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is … FAITHFULNESS” (Gal 5:22 AMPC, emphasis mine)
Most of us are familiar with the common saying: “when the chips are down, you know who your friends are”. However, this works both ways. Am I the type of friend that can be counted on, unconditionally, no matter what? ‘Faithfulness’ is the act of being loyal, trustworthy and dependable, in every circumstance, and situation. Ruth is a perfect example of this ‘fruit of faithfulness’, shown in her commitment and care of her mother-in-law, Naomi (see Ruth 1:16-18).
Some of the Bible versions use the word ‘trustworthy’ in this verse from Galatians, and in the Parable of the Talents, Messiah Yeshua teaches us about being accountable for those things we have been trusted with (see Mat 25:14-30). For us to be on the ‘rewards end of the line’, faithfulness comes into the picture. We must be faithful in the stewardship of what we have been given (including relationships), before we will ever hear our Master tell us, “Well done, good and trustworthy servant. You were trustworthy over a little, I shall set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” (Mat 25:23).
"Elohim is TRUSTWORTHY, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, יהושע Messiah our Master.” (1Cor 1:9, emphasis mine
“Forever, O יהוה, Your word stands firm in the heavens. YOUR TRUSTWORTHINESS is to all generations; You established the earth, and it stands. According to Your right-rulings They have stood to this day, For all are Your servants.” (Ps 119:89-91, emphasis mine)
Abba, Father, it is Your desire for us to be not only faithful, but also to be trustworthy. We are to be faithful not only to You, but to each other, to our word, to our commitments, and to our responsibilities. Help us, Elohim, as You develop this fruit of faithfulness within our lives, help us to be the reflection of Yeshua that we need to be. Help us to stand strong in this chaotic world that has so few challenges of worth left to commit to. In the Name of our Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth, we pray. AMEIN.
