The Fruit of Kindness
“But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence accomplishes] is … KINDNESS” (Gal 5:22 AMPC, emphasis mine)
Many translations use the word ‘gentleness’ here; the two words are synonymous in meaning. Kind and gentle have everything to do with our nature, our character and behavior, especially when under attack because of whom we belong to, and who we represent. “Good manners” can often be mistaken for the fruit of kindness; however, good manners are not a fruit of the Spirit - good manners are a trained and learned discipline. Kindness in words, kindness in behavior (both at home and in public) always, and in all circumstances will ultimately tell the difference. This fruit is so important that the Apostle Paul specifically listed it as one of the requirements needed for church leadership (1Tim 3:3; Titus 3:2; 2Tim 2:24).
“Always be humble, GENTLE and patient, bearing with one another in love, and making every effort to preserve the unity the Spirit gives through the binding power of shalom.” (Eph 4:2, 3 CJB, emphasis mine)
We, as servants of our Elohim, are expected to be gentle in the way we deal with others (2Tim 2:24); should we not look to Messiah Yeshua as our example? His gentleness, kindness, and tenderness were such that ‘a bruised reed’ He would not harm (Isa 42:3). This ‘bruised reed’ signified someone who was brokenhearted, discouraged, and without hope. Those ‘someones’ are people He gave His all to bring back up again, to restore hope to. He gave His life; He requires us to submit to the Heavenly Gardener concerning the cultivation of the fruit of kindness.
“Come to Me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I shall give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings. For MY YOKE IS GENTLE and My burden is light.” (Mat 11:28-30, emphasis mine)
Our wonderful Master, may we look to You as our example in the way we deal with others. May we be gentle, tender, and kind, always looking to bring them closer to You. May we reflect Your light, Your love, and Your mercy. In the Name of Yeshua we pray. Amein.
