KISLEV 26
Hanukkah 3rd Night
“And יהוה went before them by day in a
column of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a column of fire TO GIVE THEM
LIGHT, so as to go by day and night.” (Ex 13:21, emphasis
mine)
There is much than
can be learned from this passage of Torah; however, the thought that I wish to
focus on is that the purpose of this cloud/light was to “lead the way”. Whether we are walking in the night, or in
the full light of day, having a path clearly defined for us is critical. The undisputed fact that our Creator cares so
much about where we are going that He is resolved to furnish us with the light
to do so is something worth pondering over.
Most of us have at
least one night-light somewhere in
our house, especially those that still have young children living at home, or
like myself, older in years, and prone to be a little unsteady in the middle of
the night. To know that the night-light is there to assist me in my nocturnal
wanderings provides a sense of security – I don’t believe that any of us enjoy
walking into objects sight unseen.
Our Elohim is the
same way. It is never His desire that we
make a wrong turn or walk into an object looming up in our way, causing us
injury and irritation. His light is
always there, always available for us to walk in – we must, however, first desire to do so.
“And I shall
lead the blind by a way they have not known – in paths they have not known I
lead them. I MAKE DARKNESS LIGHT BEFORE THEM, and crooked places straight.
These matters I shall do for them, and I shall not forsake them.”
(Isa 42:16, emphasis mine)
“For You have delivered my life from death, My feet
from stumbling, That I might walk before Elohim, In the light of the living!”
(Ps 56:13)
