My Words

“Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak; And hear, O earth, The words of my mouth.” (Deu 32:1 ISR)

Abba Father has many times pulled me up ‘short and quick’, in order that I might simply listen to what I am saying, and, that I might pay attention to what I am going to say before I say it.   According to our opening verse, it is very likely that all of heaven and earth hear everything that we say, good and bad.  It is therefore no wonder that we are ‘snared with the words of our mouths; we are captured with the words of our own mouths.’ (Pro 6:2)

The word translated as ‘hear’ is the Hebrew word sh’ma (Strong’s H8085), the same word that is found in Deu 6:4, "Sh'ma, Yisra'el! Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai echad [Hear, Isra'el! Adonai our God, Adonai is one].”  Sh’ma means more than just hearing, it also means doing, carrying out an action in accordance with what was heard.   Therefore, the question remains:  If the heavens and the earth are ‘hearing’ the words that we speak, what is the action that is being carried out?

Our words are to be wholesome, nourishing, edifying, and give grace and favor to those who hear them.  This includes ourselves, when we hear the words that come out of our own mouths (Eph 4:29).  Our words are not to be uttered in haste (Ecc 5:2), nor are they to be lengthy or ‘wordy’ (Pro 13:3).  And when we get to that place where we have learned to never offend in our speech, then we have reached the place the Scriptures consider ‘mature’ (Jam 3:2).

“The heart of the wise gives discretion to his mouth, And he increases learning to his lips.” (Pro 16:23 ISR)

“And see, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your beings that not one word has failed of all the good words which יהוה your Elohim spoke concerning you. All of it has come to you, and NOT ONE WORD OF THEM HAS FAILED.” (Jos 23:14, emphasis mine)

Alvinu, Malkenu, our Father, our King, we repent, and we ask Your forgiveness for being slothful, for being lazy, for being careless with the words of our mouths.  We know that there is the power of life and death in the tongue, and we desire to speak life, the life that is in Messiah Yeshua, our Master.  Elohim, we give You full control of our mouths, and we ask, according to Your Word in Psalm 141:3, that You set a watch over our mouths, that there would be nothing that would come forth that is not pleasing to Your ears.  Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight, Abba.  In the Name of Yeshua our Messiah, we pray …
