CHESHVAN
22
Give
“Give, and it shall be given to you. A good
measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over shall be put into
your lap. For with the same measure with which you measure, IT SHALL BE
MEASURED BACK TO YOU.” (Luk
6:38 ISR, emphasis mine)
Years ago, a
principal was commonly taught, first in the home, but also in the schools,
known as “The Golden Rule”. Simply put,
this principal was based upon the Word of Elohim, doing unto others as you
would have them do unto you, and loving your neighbor as yourself (Mar
12:28-31). Ancient Jewish Wisdom also
teaches something similar: “What you hate, do to no one”, a quote attributed to
the Jewish sage of renown, Rabbi Solomon ben Isaac, otherwise known as Rashi. By applying these principals to our lives, we
learn to turn our focus off ourselves,
and on to those around us, insuring
that we die to the ‘self’ – the yetzer
hara, that carnal, selfish inner man - that continually tries to rise up in
importance.
Our present society,
for the most part, has lost sight of these principals. It is all about “me, mine and my”, and the world
functions on a cut-throat
mentality. Most people are out for
Number One, and many do not care who they bulldoze to get where they believe
they need to be. Such is not the economics of the Kingdom of our
Creator.
“He who loves his life shall lose it, and he who
hates his life in this world shall preserve it for everlasting life.” (Joh 12:25 ISR)
It is Elohim that
gives us the wisdom to get wealth
(Deu 8:18), and it is not by withholding from those that are in need (Pro
28:27). Everything that we have comes
from the hand of our King (Jam 1:17), even down to breath that we draw (Isa
42:5), and yes, it is for us to enjoy
and delight in. However, it is never meant for us to hoard and
retain.
When we allow our
Father to teach us to give, we are
developing the character of Messiah Yeshua more fully within ourselves;
something that we know pleases Him,
our Creator. And as we give, simply with
the joy of giving, in obedience to the will of Elohim, we understand that ‘He
is a rewarder of those that seek Him out’ (Heb 11:6).
"For
God so loved the world that He GAVE His only and unique Son, so that everyone
who trusts in Him may have eternal life, instead of being utterly destroyed.
For God DID NOT send the Son into the world to judge the world, but rather so
that through Him, the world might be saved.” (Joh 3:16-17 CJB, emphasis
mine)
