Integrity

Judge me, O יהוה, according to my righteousness, And according to my integrity within me.” (Ps 18:20 ISR)

One of the definitions of 'integrity', according to the dictionary, is “the quality or state of being of sound moral principle; uprightness, honesty, and sincerity”[1].  Basically, in common sense language, integrity means doing what is right when no one is around to watch, because it is the RIGHT thing to do.  It does not necessarily mean perfection, but it does mean striving, trying, and setting a standard for yourself that you refuse to compromise on.

David was a person who lived a life of integrity, even before he became king.  While being hunted down and driven from town to town, David had several opportunities to take matters into his own hands, and “get even” with the one who was ultimately hunting him.  King Saul’s desire was to see David dead, and when circumstances put Saul into David’s hands, integrity would not allow David to harm “the anointed of the Lord” (1Sam 24:6).  Saul recognized David’s righteous and honorable character (1Sam 24:17-19), as did our Elohim.

What are our plans and our actions, when we think no one is watching, when we think no one can trace ‘things’ back to us?  Are the plans and actions we engage in able to stand under the microscope of the purifying agent of Elohim’s Torah, His Word?  Are the intents and motives of our lives, our hearts, as transparent and pure before Yahweh as we think they are?

“The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the willful contrariness and crookedness of the treacherous shall destroy them."  (Pro 11:3 AMPC)

Brethren, our Master Yeshua plainly told us that we are “the light of the world and a city set on a hill” (Mat 5:14).  In other words, everyone is watching us.  Everything we do and say must be done with an attitude of integrity, with uprightness, with sound moral principle, as ambassadors of our Messiah King.  And He will reward us accordingly…

“… those who sow righteousness gain a true reward.”  (Pro 11:18 CJB)
