Ears to Hear

“And He said to them, be careful WHAT you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the TRUTH YOU HEAR] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you WHO hear.”  (Mark 4:24 AMPC, emphasis mine)

Throughout the course of any given day, the sounds that we hear are many, and of a great variety.  Some of us have developed the ability to filter what is of importance, of what needs to be retained, and of what needs to be rejected and discarded.  Unfortunately, too often the wires get crossed, and many of those things that do need to be kept and cultivated are being thrown away, while the ‘junk’ is being fertilized and fed.  Only with the help of the Spirit of YHWH can we be successful in hearing correctly, and then allow him to teach and train us from what we hear and retain.

In both the Hebrew and the Greek, the words from the Scriptures that have been translated as ‘hear’ include the sense of not only listening, but also of comprehending, understanding andobeying, all within the sense of hearing.  It therefore appears that accountability and responsibility rests with us.  We can no longer limit ourselves to just hearing sounds; we must recognize, understand, and obey the given instructions. 

“My sheep recognize MY voice, and I know them, AND they follow me.” (John 10:27 TLB, emphasis mine)

“But He said, “Blessed rather are those HEARING the Word of Elohim AND watching over it!”

 (Luke 11:28 ISR, emphasis mine)

"Sh'ma, Yisra'el! YHWH Eloheinu, YHWH echad!” (Deu 6:4)

ABBA Father, we come to You in the Name of Your Son, Messiah Yeshua.  We repent of our inattention, of not rightly handling Your Word of Truth.  We ask that You – the Elohim that made the hearing ear and the seeing eye (Pro 20:12) - give us ears to hear, and a heart ready and willing to receive the goodness of Your life-giving Torah, Your Word.  Teach us to be attentive; help us to be willing, and may we ever be Your obedient and loving children.
