Sivan 6
HIS Desire
“…let Your desire be done on earth as it is
in heaven.” (Mat 6:10 ISR)
“…Yet not as I desire, but as You desire.” (Mat 26:39 ISR)
Most of us who claim to have a relationship with
the Creator of the universe have at one time or another prayed these verses;
however, do we truly understand what
the Father’s will and desire is? I have
posed this question in the past, especially to friends and family still within
the westernized church system, with different responses. Let us look at what the Word of our Elohim
says concerning His will and desire.
Generally, when we are asked for something, anything, the request is the “desire”
of the one doing the asking. Using this logic, when our Elohim is “asking”
something of us, it could be interpreted as His
desire, or His will. I
would surmise that it would be to our benefit to locate those places where our
Creator is asking, or requesting, something of us, His people.
When the words of Torah tell us “…what is יהוה your Elohim asking of you, but to fear יהוה your Elohim, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to
serve יהוה your
Elohim with all your heart and with all your being, to guard the commands of יהוה and His laws which I command you today for your good” (Deu 10:12-13), I believe it would be correct to
assume everything contained within these two verses is His desire. And where do we
learn to love Him, fear Him, walk in His ways, and to serve Him? All of this is found within the pages of
Torah.
Looking again to the
Amidah as our foundation and reference, there is no place where the exact words
found in our opening verses are found. There
is, however, a particular benediction (or blessing, #11 of the Amidah) found
that concerns the “Righteous Reign of God”.
It reads as follows:
“Restore our judges as in former
times, and our counselors as at the beginning; and remove from us sorrow
and sighing. Reign over us, you alone, O Lord, with lovingkindness and
compassion, and clear us in judgment. Blessed are you, O Lord, the King who
loves righteousness and justice.”[1]
By inviting our
Elohim to reign over us, we are inviting His desires and will to be the
foremost in our lives. And we are
honoring the request He has made of
us …
“And the world passes away, and the lust of it,
but the one doing the desire of Elohim remains forever.” (IJoh 2:17 ISR)
