"And if I have PROPHETIC POWERS (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess ALL KNOWLEDGE, and if I have [sufficient] FAITH so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am NOTHING (a useless nobody)."  (1Corinthians 13:2 Amp, emphasis mine)

There is a story, found in the book of Numbers, chapters 22-24, of a man supposedly having ‘prophetic powers’ (as what is spoken of in our opening verse), yet finding it impossible to curse YHWH’s people.  Balaam tried; he had the promise of GREAT wealth and reputation held out to him as a reward, but he could not curse what YHWH had commanded him to bless.  Needless to say, his motive was in the wrong ballpark.

Centuries ago, the Greek people were a nation famous for their great speaking skills and intellect; in today’s language, they would have been called smooth talkers.  But it was all natural, human knowledge and talent, of which they were VERY proud of.  For the most part, there was little, or no love, for our YHWH Elohim in them.  Today, many colleges and universities teach classes on public speaking and presentation, and these classes in themselves are not wrong or bad.  But as in the time of the ancient Greeks, the whole concept of public speaking today has little to do with the love of our ABBA Father, and His Son Yeshua; many of those that engage in this activity do so from the need of self-exaltation

And what then, is this ‘faith’ that we need to have, according to our opening verse?  It is absolute confidence, belief, and total, complete trust, but only IN our Elohim Himself.

But without faith it is impossible to please YAHWEH. For it is right that the one drawing near to YAHWEH should BELIEVE THAT HE IS, and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 HRB, emphasis mine)

For those of us that claim to be children of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, it is to us the Rev Sha’ul - the Apostle Paul – is addressing his remarks in our opening verse.  He is very specific, concerning OUR motives and attitudes in the public forum.  If we do not have YAH’s love reflecting IN and THROUGH us, we are nothing … It is a question, I ask myself continually, in what I write:  who does this glorify and bring honor to?  May it always point to my YHWH Elohim, who gives me the words to write …

“Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Adonai, Adonai’, did we not eat and drink in your name and have we not prophesied in your name?  And in your name have cast out shadim {devils}?  And in your name done many powerful works?  And then will I profess to them, that I KNOW THEM NOT.  Depart from me, all you workers of Torah-less-ness.” (Matthew 7:22-23 HRVS, emphasis and insert mine)

“Investigate MY life, O God, find out everything about ME; cross-examine and test ME, get a clear picture of what I’M about; See for yourself whether I’VE done anything wrong—then guide ME on the road to eternal life.”  (Psalm 139:23-24 MB, emphasis mine)
