Not Our Own

“… Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking …” (1Corinthians 13:5 Amp)

Many political, social, and economical organizations worldwide have their foundations from biblical principals; humanitarian injustices, with the United Nations as “watch-dog”, SHOULD not be tolerated, and should be brought under scrutiny.  The United States, in past decades, has been an example of democracy and equal rights, and the American Civil War was fought for just that reason: an end to slavery, bringing freedom to approximately 4 million black slaves.

Our United States Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, was written - based upon biblical standards - to protect our individual rights from tyrannical and dictatorial control.  There are many that would say that our present government is trying to take these rights away from us; I am not here to discuss or debate this issue.  BECAUSE of these times that we are now living in, many have developed the mind-set of “I have my rights”, which, in itself, has an element of truth to it.

But DOES it?  IF we confess Messiah Yeshua as our Master and Redeemer, then we have been bought with a price, a very costly price; that price being HIS life and HIS blood, which He bled out for each one of us.  The Word of God tells us that our lives are no longer our own, to do with as WE please, which basically means, we no longer belong to ourselves (1Corinthians 6:19-20).  If we are to live out our lives as an extension of HIM, our Messiah/King, then we must also radiate HIS love in and through us to the world around us, by NOT insisting on ‘our OWN way’, ‘our OWN rights’, just as HE never did (Matthew 26:42).

Love each other devotedly and with brotherly love; and SET EXAMPLES FOR EACH OTHER in showing respect.”  (Romans 12:10 CJB, emphasis mine)

“So then, as occasion and opportunity open up to us, let us do good [morally] to all people [not only being useful or profitable to them, but also doing what is for their spiritual good and advantage]. BE MINDFUL TO BE A BLESSING, especially to those of the household of faith [those who belong to God's family with you, the believers].”  (Galatians 6:10 Amp, emphasis mine)
