A Thanksgiving Offering

“Always be joyful. Pray regularly. IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS, for this is what God wants from YOU who are united with the Messiah Yeshua.”  (1Thessalonians 5:16-18 CJB, emphasis mine)

For some years now, YHWH has been very quietly speaking to me about a continual offering of ‘thanksgiving’, an attitude, a frame of mind, a LIFESTYLE that reflects a heart filled with gratitude and thanks.  As we in America celebrate the day normally set aside as “Thanksgiving Day”, I perceive that YAH is challenging us to remember, and GIVE THANKS, for all that we are, all that we have, and all that we WILL have, through our Creator, Savior, and King, Yeshua the Messiah.

Traditionally, we celebrate “Thanksgiving” on the fourth Thursday of November, a day of “thanks” established by the early Pilgrim settlers.  But the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob established the offering of ‘thanksgiving’ and praise centuries ago, through a minstrel/king by the name of David.  When David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, and had it placed in a tabernacle there, he wrote an incredible psalm of ‘thanksgiving’ and praise to our God and Creator, acknowledging Him for WHO He is (see 1Chronicles 16, Psalm 105).  Much of the psalm is still used today by the Hebrew nation, and is part of what is known as 5 “Hallel”, or song of Praise; this was most likely the “hymn” that our Lord sang on the Passover before His death.

Give THANKS to יהוה, for He is good, For His kindness is everlasting!  (1Chronicles 16:34 ISR, emphasis mine)

It is very easy to focus on everything that is wrong in our world, and yes, we live in an imperfect world.  But I also know that we are called to be “salt and light” in this imperfect world, and the one way that we CAN do this is by exhibiting a lifestyle of ‘thanksgiving’ and gratitude.  We may not have the understanding of each and every situation that we find ourselves in, but if we discipline ourselves to rehearse the blessings that we have received through the hands of our wonderful ABBA Father, we will find ourselves continually offering up to Him the sacrifice of praise and ‘thanksgiving’.  And a grateful heart is something that the Father delights in …

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, GIVING THANKS TO HIS NAME.”  (Hebrews 13:15 NKJV, emphasis mine)

“Oh that men would praise Yahweh for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men and let them sacrifice the sacrifices of THANKSGIVING, and declare his works with rejoicing.” (Psalm 107:21-22 WoY, emphasis mine)
