Daily Blessing: Shabbat

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who is my Lord of the Sabbath, my beloved betrothed, that I spend this appointed time with every week.  Ancient Jewish wisdom teaches that the Sabbath is referred to as the ‘wedding ring’, between me and my heavenly bridegroom, one of the symbols and tokens of our commitment to each other.   With joy, I look forward to the continuous, 7-day “circle”, which gives me the opportunity to repeat my vows, and renew my commitment to my “El Elyon”, my God, the MOST HIGH God! I love You,YAH!

Leaving Them Behind

"If you come to me but will not leave your family, you cannot be my follower. You must love me more than your father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters--even more than your own life!”  (Luke 14:26 ERV)

While studying this week’s Torah portion (vaYera, Genesis 18:1 through 22:24), the story of Lot’s wife always pulls me up short.  So much is understood about the dangers of looking behind us, to that which we came out of, and losing our focus on our Creator.  Yet, is it not something we all have done at some time or another, if not to remind us of what we do NOT want to return to?
There is some speculation that the reason Lot’s wife looked back toward Sodom was NOT because she was yearning for the lifestyle she had left behind, but because she had other children that would not leave the city. We do not know this for certain; the biblical narrative does not give us clear details.  However, a mother’s grief over the certain end of her children can be a traumatic thing – mot…

Daily Blessing

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who blesses us with children and grandchildren for us to nurture and enjoy. And while we delight in our families, we give YOU thanks for being the ABBA Father You are, always loving and caring for us.  May all of our household KNOW and honor You, serve You in love and joy all the days of their lives. Thank You, “Elohim Avinu”, God our Father, for all the promises in Your Word, the promises that cover ALL of our households. In the Name that is above ALL names, Yeshua of Nazareth, AMEIN!

YHWH

“Yet I am YHWH your Elohim from the land of Egypt; and you know no Elohim but Me, and beside Me there is no savior.”  (Hosea 13:4 HRVS)
“IN GOD WE TRUST” – found on every monetary note of American currency …
ONE of the definitions of ‘god’, according to Noah Webster, is that of the TITLE applied to the Supreme Creator, or applied to any person or thing that is exalted, worshiped, and deified” (American Dictionary of the English Language, Noah Webster, 1828, emphasis mine).  For an individual to say “I believe in God” is NOT the acceptable cure-all that has been preached for years.  The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the one that most of us claim to serve, is asking us: in WHICH god do we trust?
“You believe that Elohim is One (echad). You do well; even the demons believe and shudder.”  (James 2:19 CJB)
The God of Judeo-Christian belief does have a NAME, and He has invited, repeatedly, His children to use His name.  However, it is NOT a name that is to be thrown a…

Daily Blessing

Blessed are you, YHWH our Elohim, King of the Universe, who has given us another dawn, another day, another morning to rise and sing Your praise! You are the God who brought order out of chaos, who hung the stars in their appointed positions, and suspends the earth in its space.  Our YAH is an AWESOME God, who reigns from heaven above!  We choose to honor You, THIS day, for it is the day that YOU have made! Hallelu-YAH!

WHAT do you know?

“Examine yourselves whether you are in the belief – prove yourselves.  Or do you not KNOW yourselves, that Yeshua Messiah is in you, unless you are disapproved.” (2Corinthians 13:5 ISR, emphasis mine)

How does one gauge the extent of WHO we are?  Whom do you KNOW, and know well?  Who do you hang out with?  What are you certain of?  What can you test and prove within yourself, and evaluate against the standard of the Torah, the Word of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob?  What is the ONE statement that you can make that you know is absolute and complete truth?

“For I KNOW that my Redeemer and Vindicator lives, and at last He [the Last One] will stand upon the earth …. Whom I, even I, shall see for myself and on my side! And my eyes shall behold Him, and not as a stranger!” (Job 19:25, 27 Amp, emphasis mine)

Daily Blessing

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, king of the universe, whom I can never thank and praise enough.  For all that You do, to me, for me, in me, and through me, I give You thanks.  You continually anoint my head with fresh oil, Your mercy and loving-kindness is new to me EVERY morning, and You faithfully take me by the hand and lead me in the paths of righteousness for YOUR Name’s sake.  Who am I, that You are mindful of me?  You are the “Elohei Tehillati”, the God of my praise, and I choose to worship You.

Forever Settled

“For ever, O Yahweh, thy word is SETTLED in heaven.”  (Psalm 119:89 WoY, emphasis mine)

There are those of us that have spent some time on the inside of a courtroom, giving us a little experience as to the workings of our judicial system.  When all of the legal procedures have run their course, and all that remains is the judge’s decision, stress is heightened and nerves are frayed.  However, when the gavel comes down, the decision is made, and it is ‘SETTLED’; it is finished.
Noah Webster defines ‘settled’ as “to make certain or permanent, to determine, to adjust or confirm, to establish, to be free from doubt” (American Dictionary of the English Language, Noah Webster, 1828).  We know that ‘for ever’ relates to a time of infinite duration, or an unending future.  Therefore, from this verse, we may conclude that the Word of our God is infinitely and permanently established, and confirmed, in heaven, NEVER to change, nor is it subject to appeal!
“The heaven and the earth will pass away, …

Daily Blessing

Blessed are YOU, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who is the author of TRUTH.  We know, ABBA, that You are the true God, the “Elohim Emet”, the God of Truth, and we know that grace and truth came through our Savior King, Messiah Yeshua.  We know that Your written Word, the Torah, is truth, and we know the ‘Ruach HaKodesh’, the Holy Spirit of YHWH, is the Spirit of Truth.  Thank You, Lord, for the TRUTH that we receive, for it is the standard that we can hold everything up against, that we would NEVER be deceived.  Hallelu-YAH!

Daily Blessing

Blessed are You, YHWH our God, King of the universe, who not only hears my every cry, but answers me, blessing me above and beyond everything I could ever imagine.  Thank You, Father, for Your love, and compassion, which are both limitless and have no end.  ABBA, Your favor I do not deserve, nor can I ever earn it, yet it is through this favor that I am delivered, redeemed, and restored to my right relationship with You. Thank You for Your arms around me, shielding and protecting me, and keeping me safe from all harm.  O YHWH, how excellent is YOUR Name in ALL the earth!

Long Life

“With long life will I satisfy him, and make him to behold My salvation.”  (Psalm 91:16 HRVS)

Today’s medical science has proven that worry, stress, and anxiety will cause medical problems of sufficient severity as to shorten our lifespan considerably.  Lack of peace in ALL areas of our lives is detrimental to our health; surprisingly, even infants and small children suffer from this problem.  Intimacy with a loving and caring ABBA Father would solve this situation permanently; His name is ‘Sar Shalom’, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).  And because He IS the Prince of Peace, the closer we cling to Him, He gives us HIS peace as a means to live this long and full life …
“Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [stop ALLOWING yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not PERMIT YOURSELVES to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]”  …

Daily Blessing

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who is the standard of TRUTH, and the example of truth we are to pattern our lives by.  Not only is Your Word, Your TORAH, truth, but You are not capable of speaking any type of falsehoods.  And this is Your desire for us, Your children:  TRUTH springing from our inner beings.  May we always seek YOUR way, YOUR truth, and YOUR life … in the name of Yeshua HaMashiach … AMEIN!

Daily Blessing: Shabbat

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has blessed us with the gift of Shabbat.  We thank You, ABBA, for this treasure, this taste of eternity, this place in time, where we come and join with YOU.  To spend time in fellowship with You, our “Elohim Chayim”, our LIVING God, and to also join in fellowship with like-minded brethren, is a joy and a delight.  Truly, Your ordinance of Shabbat IS a rest and a pleasure, and is never a burden.  May Your Sabbath reign come soon, Lord!

Daily Blessing

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who teaches me how to STAND firm and strong in the face of all of my adversaries, and against all opposition.  It is only when my feet are firmly planted on the Rock of my salvation, when I am leaning against my “El Gibbor”, my MIGHTY and STRONG God, that I know I have the strength and endurance to stand.  For it is You, my “YHWH Tzva’ot”, my Lord of Hosts, the Captain of YHWH’s Army, who fights for me, and wins the victory!  Hallelu-YAH!

I Will Deliver

He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.  (Psalm 91:15 WEBA)

In the 16th chapter of the book of Acts, we have the story of Paul and Silas being imprisoned in the Philippian jail.  We are also told how Elohim had used Paul to deliver a young girl from an evil spirit, which then caused the girl’s masters’ to become angry, and have Paul and Silas thrown into a prison.  Not only were they placed within the lowest and most inaccessible part of the prison (the dungeon), but their feet were placed in stocks, a frame of wood made to immobilize the feet of prisoners for even further security.Midnight finds them in total and complete darkness, yet they were confident and assured in their praise and worship to YAH, their Father, their deliverer, and their strong tower (Acts 16:24-25).
ABBA Father came through for them.  The Word describes it as a ‘great earthquake’ (Acts 16:26), and it not only opened all of the cell doors of th…

Give Me A Call

“He will call on ME, and I will answer him.”  (Psalm 91:15 CJB, emphasis mine)

Some years ago, we received a phone call, late in the evening, from our oldest daughter.  While on her way into town (40 miles away), she had blown a tire on her car, and, unfortunately, she had no spare tire with her.  Robin knew immediately who to phone for help, had the assurance of who would come to her assistance, and rescue her from the predicament that she was in.  Her DADDY is her ‘kinsman-redeemer’ (Ruth 3:12), by right of the blood relationship that they have, and when she calls on him, her dad answers her.  Occasionally he says ‘no’ to her requests, but he ALWAYS answers her.
Because of the relationship we now have with our ABBA Father, through our acceptance of the complete and finished work of our Messiah Yeshua, YHWH is our ‘kinsman-redeemer’, just as my husband is to our daughter.  We now have the right, and the privilege, because of the blood sacrifice of Yeshua, to call out to our Father, our…

Devotion

“BECAUSE he is devoted to Me, I WILL deliver him; I WILLkeep him safe, for he knows My name.”  (Psalm 91:14 Jewish Study Bible, Tanakh Translation, emphasis mine)

Noah Webster, in his dictionary of 1828, lists as one of the definitions of ‘devotion’ as “a solemn attention to the Supreme Being in worship; a yielding of the heart and affections to God, with reverence, faith and piety; ardent love or affection; attachment manifested by CONSTANT ATTENTION” (American Dictionary of the English Language, Noah Webster, 1828, emphasis mine).  YHWH has impressed upon me a strong urgency, during this series on Psalm 91, to stress this one point:  we MUST stay fixed, permanent, un-shakable in our residence in the “secret place in the Most High”.  From our position under the shadow of His wings, our attachment, and our attention, to HIM should be strong, and our eyes remain steady – FIXED - upon our ‘Elohim’, our God, the MIGHTY God.
BECAUSE we choose to stay in this position, ABBA Father says that…

My Hiding Place

Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the universe, who is my shelter, my refuge, my hiding place that I run to in my times of need.  I continually see myself crawling up into Your lap, ABBA, resting in the safety and security of Your everlasting arms, knowing that there is no other place I would rather be.  I thank You, “EloheiMikkarov”, the God who is NEAR, that You never abandon me, or leave me defenseless.  You even surround me with songs of deliverance!  Hallelu-YAH!

Underfoot

You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample UNDERFOOT.”  (Psalm 91:13 Amp, emphasis mine)

At one time, during its long and fascinating history, the Tower of London was home to its own private ‘Menagerie’, or zoo.  During the reign of the first Queen Elizabeth in the 16th century, the Menagerie was opened to public viewing, and boasted an assorted population of lions, tigers, bears, leopards, elephants, hyenas, and other exotic animals.  There is a story told of one particular lion, who had a loud and ‘fiercesome’ roar, and would invariably let it sound out when the corridors and sidewalks were the most crowded.  Visitors were assured that his cage was secure, that no, he could not escape, and that yes, he was properly fed and not hungry.  And besides all of that, he was also missing most of his teeth.
We are told in the Word of God that our “enemy, the Adversary, stalks about LIKE a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1Peter 5:8 CJ…

Carry You

“They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:12 WEBA)

Ancient Jewish wisdom suggests that the reason angels try to prevent us from ‘tripping on a stone’ is so we will not fall into sin.  The Word of God teaches us that the angels of Elohim are “ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14, Amp).  We learn also that angels respond to the WORD of God (Psalm 103:20), and hasten to obey the Word when it is spoken in faith.
YHWH’s Word is very blunt and to the point concerning the fact that “wages” of sin are equal to death (Romans 6:23).  How awesome, and how very humbling this concept is, that our ABBA Father would send forth His angels to assist us, help us, and aid us that we NOT sin.
May we always remember WHOSE angels these are.  Our Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, isTHE one to receive praise and thanksgiving for their help an…

Armed Guards

“For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [OF OBEDIENCE AND SERVICE].”(Psalm 91:11 Amp, emphasis mine)

It seems a lifetime ago that this particular incident happened, yet I remember it like it was yesterday.  A friend and fairly close neighbor had brought her children, who were of similar ages to mine, over to play for the afternoon, returning later that same afternoon to pick them up.  When my friend (and her children) were loaded up in her older model Jeep Cherokee (early ‘70’s model?), I and my daughter Karen (about 6 years old at the time) were standing at the vehicle windows saying our farewells.  Karen was leaning in the window of the backdoor, talking with her young friend, while I talked with mine, the mom.
As we said goodbye, both of us Moms assumed that Karen had heard us, and had moved back away from the vehicle; unfortunately, Karen hadn’t.  Consequently, as my friend stepped on the accelerator, the fo…

NO evil

“Because YOU have made the Lord YOUR refuge, and the Most High YOUR dwelling place, there shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near YOUR tent.”  (Psalm 91:9-10 Amp, emphasis mine)

As we move with ever increasing acceleration toward the day of Messiah Yeshua’s return, we can see with our eyes expanded, and amplified, evil of EVERY sort exploding in the world around us.  Sexual perversions unimaginable, extreme violence that are now a common occurrence, as well as the many natural disasters that are happening on a daily, almost hourly schedule:  all of this adds up.  We find many warnings throughout YHWH’s Word of what is now taking place, yet here, in this opening verse, we have a promise of protection and shelter from anything that could, or would, come at us.
HOWEVER, our Creator can do very little until WE first choose to make HIM our refuge, our habitation, our permanent address through a relationship of close intimacy and obedience.  In modern day terminology, t…

Spectator

“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.  Only a SPECTATOR shall you be [yourself INACCESSIBLE in the secret place of the most high] as you witness the reward of the wicked.”(Psalm 91:7-8 Amp, emphasis mine)

In 2Kings chapter 19, we find the account of an amazing deliverance worked by ONEangel, at the command of our Creator.  The King of Assyria, Sennacherib, had sent a GREAT army against Hezekiah, the Hebrew King of Judah, and was determined to defeat him.  Hezekiah was a man who loved YHWH, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and was devoted to serving Him.  As the city of Jerusalem lay surrounded and besieged by this vast army, Sennacherib’s general sent an insulting letter to King Hezekiah, demanding the complete surrender and submission of Judah to Assyria.  Hezekiah takes this letter to the ‘House of the Lord’, spreads it out before our ABBA Father (2Kings 19:14), and seeks out our Elohim for divine intervention.  T…

NOT Afraid

“You shall NOT BE AFRAID of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.”  (Psalm 91:5-6 Amp, emphasis mine)

It is imbedded in our human nature to be afraid of what we cannot see, and darkness can hide many ugly things.  But there are also many attacks and ambushes, that appear out of nowhere, in the brightness of day; we all have a ‘blind side’ that our enemy is well aware of.  These attacks come in every shape and form, and their single purpose is to pull us away from believing, and trusting in, our Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It was interesting to find that in the original Hebrew ‘Tanakh’ (Jewish Study Bible), from the old Chaldean manuscripts, these verses also imply attacks from demonic forces and rulers of darkness.  Included in this list is also the angel of death, who was ac…

His Truth

“… His truth is a shield and protection.”  (Psalm 91:4 CJB)

Along with our residency in the “secret place” of the Most High, also comes intimacy. The more time we spend in this secret place, the more we will know HIM, our ‘Elohim’, and the more He will reveal to us the depths of His Word.  The more we understand His Word, the more we will desire both the written WORD, and the living WORD, Messiah Yeshua.
But with the intimacy comes accountability.  This is true of any relationship, and it is much more so with our ABBA Father, our Heavenly Husband, our Creator and God. We cannot claim to love someone, want to live with them in intimacy, and not be willing to be obedient and accountable.  When we choose to walk in this obedience, from within this secret place, we find we are encircled with this “shield of truth” that sets us free.  However, it is only the truth that you KNOW (personally and intimately), that will set you free.

“… If you OBEY what I say, then you are really my talmidim {dis…

Covering

“He will COVER YOU with his wings; you will be safe in His care; His faithfulness will protect and defend you.”  (Psalm 91:4 GNT, emphasis mine)

During the early colonial times here in the United States, a marriage custom arose when clergymen were few and far between.  The custom came to be known as ‘Jumping over the Broom’: when a couple had participated in this act, they were considered married, until such time as a minister was available to legalize the already accomplished deed.  Many such marriages never did have the benefit of a clergyman, yet the marriage in question was still considered just as legal and binding as if it had been blessed by clergy.
It was of especial interest to find the expression in ancient Hebrew - “to spread one’s wings over” - means to LEGALLY take a wife.  Tied in together with this phrase is the fact that the corner of the tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl, is often referred to as a wing (The Complete Word Study Dictionary: Old Testament, Copyright2003 by A…

Rescue

“He will rescue you from the trap of the hunter and from the plague of calamities …” (Psalm 91:3 CJB)

Should we find ourselves caught in a torrential rainstorm, an umbrella will only do us good while we are standingunder it.  The same is true of our relationship with our ABBA Father:  He can only rescue us while we choose to remain, to sit down, and take up permanent residency in the “secret place of the Most High”.  Once we have determined with the divine ‘Post Office’ WHERE our address is, then there is no question as to WHO our defender is.
And make no mistake, we have a diligent hunter who continuously lays ‘traps’ for us, trying to trip us up and lay us low.  He is very much our adversary, and while he cannot defeat us, for “greater is HE that is IN us that he that is in the world” (1John 4:4), we must be aware of who he is, and the methods he uses in these attacks.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to slaughter, and to destroy. I have come that they might possess LIFE, …

I Choose

I will say of the Lord, He is MY Refuge and MYFortress, MY God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!”  (Psalm 91:2 Amp, emphasis mine)

I CHOOSE, by an act of my own free will, to say that YHWH Elohim, the creator of this universe, is MY God, my own Elohim.  I willingly allow Him to take ownership of me.  I choose Him, the “EL OLAM”, the Everlasting God, the One who is, who was, and is to come (Revelation 1:8).  I choose to recognize the covenant that my Adon, my Lord and my Master, has with me, and I choose to believe that He will keep every part of this covenant that has been signed, sealed, and delivered with the blood of my Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth.
In this second verse on Psalm 91, we are required to ‘put our money where our mouth is’.  The time has now come down to the wire:  CHOOSE YOU this day who you will serve (Joshua 24:15), and we must make our confession accordingly.  As we openly, vocally, and proudly, acknowledge WHO Elohim is to us, we allow “our…

Rest

“Those … will find REST in the shadow of the Almighty.”  (Psalm 91:1 NLT, emphasis mine)

King David, also known as the ‘Shepherd King’, is the author of Psalm 91, and we learn much more from this psalm when we attempt to look at it from a shepherd’s point of view.  The Hebrew word translated as ‘abide’, or ‘find rest’ is the word “lûn”, and basically means to lodge, to rest, to stay, often for overnight.  For a shepherd, finding secure shelter for his sheep at night was a great priority, so for David to say that there is secure and peaceful overnight rest in “the shadow of the El-Shaddai”, there is no greater statement of trust that could be given.
But where IS the “shadow of the Almighty”?  We know where a physical shadow is found, in that it is shade formed by an object, or a person, that has intercepted rays of light, usually sunlight.  We also know that we need to walk fairly close to another individual, if we desire their shadow to fall on us.  Therefore, if we desire to find rest …
