Anxious About NOTHING

“DO NOT FRET OR HAVE ANY ANXIETY ABOUT ANYTHING, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.” (Philippians 4:6 Amp, emphasis mine)

In the 1980’s, a video arcade game was introduced that made history: Pac-Man.  Almost an overnight success, it is still popular today, and has many variations on the original theme that first came out almost 30 years ago.  YHWH has used this little ‘critter’ to teach me several important lessons in my walk with Him, and I owe a ‘thank you’ to the inventor of Pac-Man for that reason.  I want to share one of those lessons with you.

In THIS most memorable lesson, ‘anxiety’ is the name of this variation of Pac-Man played.  It eats away, like corrosion, at one’s faith and trust in YHWH.  The more that it feeds, the stronger it gets, until it reaches the place where there are no longer any of the ‘little dots’ left that represent faith in YAH, belief in His Word, and trusting in His promises.  There is NOTHING there.  You are left doubting His love for you, and eventually, the very existence of YHWH.

Anxiety has its root in fear, and the Word of God tells us that fear has torment (1John 4:18); isn’t ‘fretting’ about something not complete torment?  We also know that “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of a sound mind” (2Timothy 1:7).  Webster defines anxiety as “a state of being uneasy, apprehensive, or worried about what MAY happen; concern about a POSSIBLE future event” (Webster’s New World Dictionary of American English, 1989, emphasis mine).  The Greek word translated into anxiety in the opening verse is also translated as ‘care’, or ‘cares’, and the best example of this is found in the parable of the Sower:

“These are those being sown into the thorn bushes, those hearing the Word, and the CARES of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts about other things entering in, they CHOKE the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Mark 4:18-19 LITV, emphasis mine)

We have specific instructions on how to handle our cares and anxieties; nursing them, petting them, and suffering them is NOT something that I believe the Messiah Yeshua would have approved of. Was our Master ever anxious?  Only for a short period of time, in the Garden of Gethsemane, and THAT battle was won when His will became fully yielded to the Father (Luke 22:40-43).  Only as we look to Him as our example will we have the victory over the cares of this world …

“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the right time He may lift you up.  THROW ALL your anxieties upon Him, because He cares about you.” (1Peter 5:6-7 CJB, emphasis mine)

ABBA Father, we come to You, and we repent of our anxiety, of not trusting You, of looking at vain imaginings instead of at the promises of our Living YAH.  We thank You, Father, that You are faithful, faithful to meet our every need, faithful to complete that which You have begun in us, faithful to watch over Your Word to perform it.  We look to You, ABBA, as the Author and Finisher of our faith, and we thank You.  In Yeshua’s Name … Amein!
